Do you know about the breastfeeding gold that is colostrum?

If you are hand expressing in the early postpartum period, a small excretion may come out of the nipple in the first few days before your milk comes in. This is called colostrum and is liquid gold for babies because of its natural antibiotic qualities.

Some women like to capture it in a small syringe or a spoon. To feed it to your baby, let the spoon sit on their lower lip, they will smell it, then slowly take it.

Colostrum provides all the nutrients and fluid that your newborn needs in the early days, as well as many substances to protect your baby against infections.
Read more on our blog about what to expect the first few days after birth when it comes to breastfeeding.

It can be overwhelming to decide what products you It can be overwhelming to decide what products you need for a newborn.

What’s a necessity and what’s just a gimmick? We’ve sorted through all the noise and curated a Newborn Essentials list in our Amazon Store, which you can find via the link in our bio.

Top Tip: If you have people asking what you need, mention some products and just send them our Amazon Store link so they’ll purchase brands that have been tried and tested by our community.

Here are 3 tips to help you prepare for your breas Here are 3 tips to help you prepare for your breastfeeding journey before your baby is born, courtesy of our resident lactation consultant @shellyjacobs_ibclc.

1. Learn how to identify what a “good latch” is, and how to assist your baby to latch, if needed.

2. Learn how to make more milk sooner through hand expression.

3. Be ready to cluster feed your baby, especially in the first three days. There’s no such thing as overfeeding during this time. All feeding will stimulate your milk production.
You’ll find a deeper dive into each of these topics on our blog. Link in bio.

Got a picky eater on your hands? Overhaul mealtime Got a picky eater on your hands? Overhaul mealtimes with this epic kid’s charcuterie aka “A plate with lots of things” as our Program Director, Mahri’s little girl calls it!

It’s all in the presentation, Mamas.

Cut up all the items into bite-sized pieces and arrange in colorful selections on the plate. What kid could resist eating the rainbow! You could arrange it on a platter or a board, or if you have a muffin tin handy, pull that out and pop a different food in each of the holes.

Using this as a hack might just get your kids to eat a wider variety of foods, but also making it feel like it’s their choice = mealtime success.
