Remember the old TV commercial where the woman cried out, “Calgon, take me away!” Yeah, that one. She was struggling as many people do with balancing her life and work. The poor gal had simply not taken a breather and figured out how to manage both her career, her personal life,  and how to live life to the fullest. Many people are in the same boat. What follows are 5 tips to assist you in easily paddling downstream and discovering the great balance between work and your personal life.

If you’re a working mom, here’s some tips just for you.

  • Love what you do. It sounds simple and that’s because it really is. If you’re dragging your feet and dreading getting to work (especially if you’re leaving your little one(s), or even working from home and not too thrilled about the telecommute, find something that makes your heart pump and adds some zing to your labor. It isn’t work when you’re doing something you really love and enjoy. Give it a whirl and go for it!
  • Carpe diem. The Roman poet Horace had the right idea. Take the proverbial reins of your life and live each moment as if it was your last day on Earth. Far too often we moms find ourselves fretting over mundane things- don’t! These serve to limit us and keep us from the enjoyment life can bring (and they take us away from being in the moment!) Do your best to cast away negative thoughts and enjoy your time.  Keep in mind that those daily struggles have a way of working themselves out when you take action rather than worry.
  • Value over measure. Our time is limited enough. It is therefore wise to consider spending your time by treating it as a valuable commodity. It’s not about how much you can do in life, but rather the quality of what you do. Savor the time spent with family, you kids, friends and other acquaintances. Put the oomph in your work and life and make what you accomplish lasting and worthwhile. A renewed emphasis will add the necessary value to your life and alleviate your daily cares that hamper living your life to its fullest.
  • Keep your chin up. Far too often we tend to think negatively. Red lights, stop signs, and thinking you can’t are not conducive to positivity. Why not green lights and “I know I can”? Never underestimate the power of positive thinking. Consistently thinking in an optimistic manner releases those awesome endorphins and causes you to keep on keeping on. Sure, life isn’t always a bowl of the proverbial cherries, but how you handle the ups and downs of life and work determine your quality of life.
