WELCOME TO NEW MOM SCHOOL

our story
Established in 2012, New Mom School is the brainchild of Alexandra Spitz, a mom who knows what it’s like to dive headfirst into the adventure of motherhood. Fueled by a passion for newborns, psychology and the power of connection, Alex set out to create a resource that didn’t exist, but wished had when she entered motherhood – an open and vulnerable safe space that focused on a mom-first approach in the 4th trimester.
New Mom School is a place where new moms can learn, share, and glow together. From her own experiences and a thirst for knowledge, she curated a program that combines science-backed education and the power of community. It’s a place where you’ll find real talk, genuine support, and the confidence to glow during the once-in-a-lifetime experience of becoming a mom.

After having my first son in early 2011, I instantly became obsessed with everything baby! I joined a Mommy and Me group in Los Angeles where I met 11 other amazing women whose babies were born within weeks of my son. I had no idea the positive impact this group would have on all of us nor did I ever think that the women would become some of my best friends. I didn’t know it at the time, but this group would change my life.

New Mom School was the 4th trimester support I didn't know I needed. Alex and New Mom School taught me so many valuable skills and validated my fears and anxieties about being a new mom while giving me the tools to overcome them. This once-in-a-lifetime experience allowed me to bond with my newborn son while finding a support group of moms that were in the exact same place.

New Mom School was just what I needed to ease my postpartum anxiety - a room full of moms going through this phase just like me. It was life changing. We made so many new friends from this group, but most of all I gained the confidence to be the mom I was meant to be.

The postnatal period is delicate and many new mothers aren't able to obtain the support they need following the birth of their baby. The repercussions of this lack of support can have a negative effect on mom and baby. The New Mom School provides this much-needed service that medical professionals aren't able to. I recommend this community to all new mothers.

As a brand new mom, it was so wonderful to have a place I could go and connect with moms whose babies were born the same month and in a similar phase of development as mine. We shared our challenges, experiences and successes together each week, from sleep to breastfeeding to tummy time to family dynamics - we covered it all and supported each other through such a life-changing chapter in life.

New Mom School provides an unparalleled environment of friendship, encouragement and education, so new moms can bond with one another as well as their new babies. I absolutely recommend New Mom School to any new mom - you need a community to not only share in the joys of motherhood but also support you through the inevitable challenges!

Not only did New Mom School teach me tools that I could use in the early day of motherhood, but I gained confidence as a new mom and lifelong friendships with the moms in my class. We still text daily, almost 4 years -and multiple kids-later! I cannot say enough good things about New Mom School.

The transition into being a new mom is joyous but can be tremendously overwhelming and isolating. A new mom's health and emotional state impacts her newborn's health and having the right support following a child's birth is essential for any new mom. I recommend The New Mom School to every new mother.

I had no idea how much I needed New Mom School until I walked in on the first day. The classes quickly became my favorite part of each week. There was so much to learn in each class from the instructor, guest speakers, and listening to other mamas. I no longer felt alone and I felt a deep connection with the other moms. These classes have changed the trajectory of my life in such a positive way. I cannot thank Alex and New Mom School enough.

Becoming a mother can be overwhelming and isolating. Having other moms with whom to laugh, cry, and commiserate is essential to mental health. The New Mom School provides much-needed community and has been a lifeline for so many of my patients.

Upon starting OB/GYN practice in Newport Beach, I learned about "New Mom School." I was immediately impressed by the tools and camaraderie that this offers to my patients in the postpartum period, and I highly recommend that they sign up during their pregnancy. Much emphasis is placed on the third trimester when we see pregnant women weekly. As obstetricians, we realize the need for more support and guidance after birth, and New Mom School helps bridge that gap. I wholeheartedly recommend it to all of my pregnant patients.
MARIE SHARPE, MD
OB/GYN

New Mom School offers an invaluable service to new mothers. The world of first time parenthood is filled with anxiety and self-doubt. As new parents are thrust into the responsibility of the most important job of their lives, there is an inherent fear that they are doing things wrong and that they are going to fail their children by making a mistake. Parenthood was never meant to be done alone, and there is a reason behind the adage "it takes a village". New Mom School provides that "village" for new mothers that are looking for a support network. For new moms to meet in a group setting, to get expert answers to their questions and fears, to gain support and friendship from other women that are adjusting to motherhood. All of this is incredibly important. Several of my patients have been through the program, and their mothers speak of benefits and relationships that last far beyond the duration of the program. I highly recommend New Mom School to every new mother.

After having two children myself, I understand the great transition that occurs after childbirth. Not only is a mom healing, adjusting to hormone fluctuations, and dealing with sleep deprivation, she is also learning how to best care for her newborn child. I wish I had something like New Mom School when I was postpartum. I know I would have benefited from the weekly gatherings of women going through the same challenges. I am especially impressed with the content that they provide from lactation support to addressing mental health concerns. I recommend their classes to all my patients, and I love hearing about the long-term friendships that develop.

When you become a mom, things change, and that can be difficult for others (and ourselves) to accept sometimes. But, consider this: when we break our own boundaries, we will disappoint ourselves every time – and that SHOULD feel much worse than disappointing someone else. We’ll be sharing more tips from postpartum therapist and NMS Partner, Keira Merkovsky this month! In the meantime, find support within our community by signing up for classes, which gives you access to our active online community forum and NMS experts.
